Lest-we-forget list for NZ
People quickly forget all the harm politicians do to them and to the country.
This works perfectly for career politicians. They get away with their deeds:
- They escape accountablity
- They get elected over and over again, keeping their best job, which grants them money, fame, influence and connections world-wide
One way to change that is educating the public by maintaining a lest-we-forget list
that serves as a reminder of
- their deeds
- and the downhill the country is taking
Here is a first attempt of such a list.
More items and evidence need to be added.
Can you join this effort ?
- Political parties do not have equal access to publicly funded media—so much so that some are only discovered by the public on the voting paper, on election day.
- Politicians and state officials routinely escape accountability, no matter the harm caused during their time in office (e.g., the Finance Minister’s recent remarks about the country’s financial state).
- Election campaigns follow a familiar pattern: once in office, politicians abandon their promises, leaving the public betrayed.
- Incoming governments can easily scrap projects or repeal laws passed by their predecessors—wasting vast amounts of public money in the process.
- The government spends taxpayers' money at will on projects the public neither agreed to nor is even aware of.
- Public consultation is largely performative; government officials regularly ignore citizen feedback on upcoming laws.
- New Zealand has been on a path of privatization since the 1980s, and that trend shows no signs of slowing down.
- Public assets and services are being primed for privatization by successive governments, often by first threatening shutdowns, so the public welcomes private intervention.
- Auckland Airport is being sold off. In a decade or two, it could fall under the control of the UAE, Chinese government, or BlackRock.
- Which airport or port will be next? New Zealanders are not being consulted.
- New Zealand has no fuel security since the closure of Marsden Point Oil Refinery.
- The country is being quietly dragged into conflict with China, undermining its long-standing nuclear-free stance.
- While Kiwis struggle, banks, gentailers, and supermarket giants continue to rake in massive profits.
- Supermarket chains act as private middlemen, squeezing both farmers and consumers while reaping huge benefits.
- Farmers are under siege—losing money, and suffering skyrocketing mental health issues. (E.g., ( a doubling in farmer mental health cases compared to last year .)
- Beekeepers are under threat: burn $2M worth of equipment or face jail time.
- Fishing is being increasingly restricted—hurting low-income families, driving some into illegal activities. (Map and evidence needed.)
- The housing crisis continues to worsen. (Further detail recommended.)
- Many workers remain locked out of employment due to outdated mandates.
- Vaccine-injured New Zealanders are still awaiting recognition and compensation.
- No investigation has been launched into the long-term harm caused by COVID-related decisions on the public and the economy.
- Patients were blackmailed into taking the COVID vaccine—told they must be vaccinated to receive life-saving transplants.
- Education fund cuts are targeting schools and children from low-income families—undermining the future of the nation under the excuse of “fiscal discipline.”
- While the education system is in desperate need of resources like dyslexia assessments, the government is going further—cutting free school lunches. (Compile supporting evidence.)
- Disabled New Zealanders and their families are being hit with funding cuts, again under the guise of redressing public finances.
- New Zealanders living with rare diseases receive little to no support, suffering in silence.
- Rest homes are closing down—those who built the nation are now being told to “die quickly.”
- Oranga Tamariki is failing to protect New Zealand’s vulnerable children, and no meaningful reform is in sight.
- Mistreatment, torture, and even murder of children continue unchecked.
- Domestic violence remains rampant, with no effective national strategy in place.
- Criminality is on the rise, and the justice system is faltering.
- The Pike River Mine disaster remains unresolved—13 years later, the victims and their families still await justice.
- NGOs that support the poor—such as the Salvation Army and City Mission—receive little or no government funding. (Add stats/evidence.)
- While health and education suffer from underfunding, the government finds money for overseas military projects and questionable expenditures.
- Our tax dollars are being used to undermine the very values and sanctity of human life, distorting the natural order created by God.
