Lest-we-forget list for NZ

People quickly forget all the harm politicians do to them and to the country.
This works perfectly for career politicians. They get away with their deeds:

  • They escape accountablity
  • They get elected over and over again, keeping their best job, which grants them money, fame, influence and connections world-wide

One way to change that is educating the public by maintaining a lest-we-forget list
that serves as a reminder of

  • their deeds
  • and the downhill the country is taking

Here is a first attempt of such a list.
More items and evidence need to be added.
Can you join this effort ?

  1. Political parties do not have equal access to publicly funded media—so much so that some are only discovered by the public on the voting paper, on election day.
  2. Politicians and state officials routinely escape accountability, no matter the harm caused during their time in office (e.g., the Finance Minister’s recent remarks about the country’s financial state).
  3. Election campaigns follow a familiar pattern: once in office, politicians abandon their promises, leaving the public betrayed.
  4. Incoming governments can easily scrap projects or repeal laws passed by their predecessors—wasting vast amounts of public money in the process.
  5. The government spends taxpayers' money at will on projects the public neither agreed to nor is even aware of.
  6. Public consultation is largely performative; government officials regularly ignore citizen feedback on upcoming laws.
  7. New Zealand has been on a path of privatization since the 1980s, and that trend shows no signs of slowing down.
  8. Public assets and services are being primed for privatization by successive governments, often by first threatening shutdowns, so the public welcomes private intervention.
  9. Auckland Airport is being sold off. In a decade or two, it could fall under the control of the UAE, Chinese government, or BlackRock.
  10. Which airport or port will be next? New Zealanders are not being consulted.
  11. New Zealand has no fuel security since the closure of Marsden Point Oil Refinery.
  12. The country is being quietly dragged into conflict with China, undermining its long-standing nuclear-free stance.
  13. While Kiwis struggle, banks, gentailers, and supermarket giants continue to rake in massive profits.
  14. Supermarket chains act as private middlemen, squeezing both farmers and consumers while reaping huge benefits.
  15. Farmers are under siege—losing money, and suffering skyrocketing mental health issues. (E.g., ( a doubling in farmer mental health cases compared to last year .)
  16. Beekeepers are under threat: burn $2M worth of equipment or face jail time.
  17. Fishing is being increasingly restricted—hurting low-income families, driving some into illegal activities. (Map and evidence needed.)
  18. The housing crisis continues to worsen. (Further detail recommended.)
  19. Many workers remain locked out of employment due to outdated mandates.
  20. Vaccine-injured New Zealanders are still awaiting recognition and compensation.
  21. No investigation has been launched into the long-term harm caused by COVID-related decisions on the public and the economy.
  22. Patients were blackmailed into taking the COVID vaccine—told they must be vaccinated to receive life-saving transplants.
  23. Education fund cuts are targeting schools and children from low-income families—undermining the future of the nation under the excuse of “fiscal discipline.”
  24. While the education system is in desperate need of resources like dyslexia assessments, the government is going further—cutting free school lunches. (Compile supporting evidence.)
  25. Disabled New Zealanders and their families are being hit with funding cuts, again under the guise of redressing public finances.
  26. New Zealanders living with rare diseases receive little to no support, suffering in silence.
  27. Rest homes are closing down—those who built the nation are now being told to “die quickly.”
  28. Oranga Tamariki is failing to protect New Zealand’s vulnerable children, and no meaningful reform is in sight.
  29. Mistreatment, torture, and even murder of children continue unchecked.
  30. Domestic violence remains rampant, with no effective national strategy in place.
  31. Criminality is on the rise, and the justice system is faltering.
  32. The Pike River Mine disaster remains unresolved—13 years later, the victims and their families still await justice.
  33. NGOs that support the poor—such as the Salvation Army and City Mission—receive little or no government funding. (Add stats/evidence.)
  34. While health and education suffer from underfunding, the government finds money for overseas military projects and questionable expenditures.
  35. Our tax dollars are being used to undermine the very values and sanctity of human life, distorting the natural order created by God.
Over 11,000 doctors were exempted from the vaccine requirement. (Add reference/link.)
